Gerard van Wolferen -

Gerard van Wolferen (1955) studied Composition with Theo Loevendie at the Rotterdam Conservatory (1980) and Musicology at the University van Amsterdam subjects: Theoretical Musicology and Ethnomusicology (1988). 

He has a special interest in musical structure in relation to perception and cognition; music and education; music and anthropology.

Studied several kinds of Indonesian music like gamelan from Java, Bali, Sunda and Surinam as well as tembang Sunda.

He was a teacher of music in secondary schools and he taught gamelan from Surinam at ACKV Alkmaar. He taught Javanese gamelan music to visiting groups at Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam.
He composed works for string quartet, clarinet quartet, percussion, guitar and harpsichord en several films.

He participated in European projects on inclusion (Mediate 2003, Assam 2015).

From 1992 until 2022 he was a lecturer at the School of Music and Technology at HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) where he also was chair of the exam committee. He is one of the originators of Iets Eten; a networking event for students with autism.

Currently, he chairs Stichting Muziek en Visueel gehandicapten and Vereniging Autismeambassadeurs.
