P-mode is a lyrical artist who comes from the old school Rotterdam hip-hop era. From the time black Rotterdam youth were part of the infamous hip-hop subgroup called Bad-Boys Posse and the time of hip-hop Sunday’s at Arena, Space, Paard van Troje, Baroeg, De Dam, Energie Hal, Poetry Park, Rotonde, Kolebri (Hoogvliet), and so on. Due to his role in the early days, P-mode features in the classic Hip Hop Documentary: Walkmen; The History of Roffadamn Hip Hop Captured in an Exclusive Film, both as an artist and as an interviewer.
Together with former Dynamic Rockers breaker (Funny Legs) Cut Cliff and solo Rapper I.K.A.S. (I Kill All Sizes) P-mode formed Guaranteed Raw (1986), known for their outspoken style, which was innovative, creative, refreshing and ahead of their time. In 1990 Guaranteed Raw got a record deal with R&S Records (Electronic music pioneers) and released the classic EP “Ill make your body sweat”, amongst others. Guaranteed Raw didn’t last and in the 90s, P-mode joined forces with old Rotterdam based crews Casualties Assured, Two Inform, X-ile Productions, Cabo Funk Alliance, W.O.T.S. (Fusion funk band) and a whole lot of other stuff.
Since 1997 P-mode joined forces with independent record label Redrum Recordz. Together with Mike Redman, Eni-Less, Th’Acquisition, Unorthadox, P-mode formed Redrum Squad, a rap formation hailing from Rotterdam city that intergrades real life experiences and different thought patterns in their music.
Since this collaboration, it has been P-mode’s aim to produce his own sound: “Working with sound engineers is great, but when you clearly hear a specific sound in your head, and you can’t communicate it in such a way the sound engineer gets it, it clearly is time to produce yourself.”
For P-mode this is all but logic, making his next project a solo-album, fully produced and written.
While P-mode is acquiring additional producing skills and equipment, he features on several more tracks with others DJ Mack, Eni-less, Fxecutioners, AREA51/Redrum and so on, and he performs on a regular basis, both solo and as part of Deformer, recently in the news for their track “Check What You’re Listening To” with Public Enemy’s DJ Lord and Chuck D .
P-mode is great in improvising and he loves to be on stage: “I test the audience’s reaction and my own accordingly.” His texts are already notable, and in addition with the synthelating sound, P-mode is again teasing his anxious fans. With his traces in Dutch hip hop history and his personal, as well as, musical development, P-mode is completing an album of crossover music full of his well know depths and ambiguities: “My aim to do this completely independently stems from my early experiences with the organized music industry. Working with Redrum Recordz Mike Redman ensures complete creative freedom and an established partner to work with.”

Multi-talent P-mode is also well known for hosting various Rotterdam parties, Dutch festivals and national TV-shows (VPRO, The Box), and as a co-writer of the theater play In Tha Zone, a hip hop play.
