Lauri Tjallinks

Lauri Tjallinks graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2013 with Lifestyle and Design as her major. During her study she specialized in styling as well as the craft of hat making from design to production. Her graduation project is about the evolution of the city bird. In time, birds evolved to better cope with city life in a number of ways, for instance a reduced wingspan to help with manoeuvring through busy traffic. A miraculous process that goes unnoticed by people due to the negative characteristics they associate with city birds. It is her aim to make people aware of the wondrous fusion between birds and the city. A concept made tangible by designing a collection of objects. These objects are crafted using feathers of city birds. Birds that in spite of their adaptation to city life were killed directly or indirectly by people.
