With tempeh’s symbiotic base of fungus and European legume, the Clean Lab team of Mediamatic has developed a new kind of crockery. No more washing the dishes after dinner, or even worse, throwing plastic tableware away. Now you can eat what you serve.
The design concept is Cradle-to-belly: the reduction of (plastic) waste while providing consumers with taste food that is healthy as well. It is a non waste product with locally resourced ingredients. And when the production system gets mechanised, we can insert it into the worlds of street food and festivals.
But first, experience the true taste sensation of Tempeh Ware yourself at Mediamatic ETEN. Currently you can find the gastronomical surprise in our four-course menu, serving one of our delicious hot soups.
Impressed? Why not make it yourself? The production process requires a couple of plastic templates, a mould starter and some heat. Learn how to grow tempeh and become a sculptor of eatable tableware during one of Mediamatic’s tempeh workshops: Check out our program.
We have a special event dedicated to the art of tempeh. On April 26th 2017 you can hear all about fermentation of lupines and fungi at Zuursalon: Tempeh.
You can also rent the Mediamatic Clean Lab for a special project.
The development op Tempeh Ware started in 2016 at Mediamatic, initiated by Willem Velthoven. For this we collaborated with Sasker Scheerder from Manenwolf, HvA and WUR.
