Handy how-to on using the Soxhlet
So far we've used the soxhlet extractor to make a rose absolute (water based) and a tobacco absolute (butanol based). The product you synthesize from the soxhlet won't be very pure (it'll be a mix of the solvent and the extract) but still usable for perfumes, if you are so inclined. It's possible to 'clean' the product using the rotovap.
