Arduino Basics Workshop

Your chance to learn everything you need to get started with Arduino

8 Nov 2013

Arduino boards are small physical computing platforms, consisting of a simple I/O board and an integrated development environment. They can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects and can be connected to software on your computer as well. How does the Arduino work, how do you program it, and how can you integrate it into your own projects? This workshop starts with the very rudimentary and ends with a crash course in programming. For who?

Artists, art students, computer scientists, hardware hackers, product developers, nerds, dancers - everyone is welcome. Some experience in programming (C, C++, or Processing) is mandatory and affinity with electronics will come in handy as well.

What do you need?

For this workshop you need some Arduino gear and the Arduino software. You can download the software here.

If you don't have any hardware or the Arduino itself, you can get fantastic kits online at Antratek. The most complete kit is the Arduino Starter Kit, but if you are on a tight budget the Redboard kit is fine as well. Please make sure you have the kit before the workshop starts, as we don't have / sell kits here at Mediamatic.

If you already have an Arduino then please make sure you have (most) of these parts. Antratek also sells loose parts. Here is a list of all the parts you need. Radio Rotor, Hecke and Muco in Amsterdam also sell parts. If there is a specific sensor or actuator you would like to use during the workshop, we advise you to bring it yourself.

Don't forget your laptop!

Trainer

Arjan Scherpenisse is a programmer and tinkerer who likes working on challenging projects in a wide spectrum of technologies. By trade, he has been doing web development for over 10 years, but the jobs he finds most interesting always have a physical component to them. Web-connected art installations, RFID interfaces, hacked iPods, etc. He works as an independent software developer under the name MiracleThings.
