Gwen van der Zwan is a Dutch, Amsterdam based multi-disciplinary artist and writer. Recurring themes in her work include physicality, madness, absurdity of existence, technology and animal suffering.
Out of interest, Gwen went along several times with an entrepreneur specializing in trauma cleaning (cleaning after accidents and crimes) and biohazard cleaning (cleaning up blood, semen, and faeces). She wrote experimental prose about this, which part of was published in The Internet Guide.
She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and at the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht and now works as a writer and photographer for platforms like VICE, The Next Web and the Humanist Society.
In the month of April 2019 Gwen is an artist-in-residence at Mediamatic. She developed different projects at Mediamatic, among which Het Eten van Mensen and Finally Free.
