Tumulus Ruchama Noorda

Romantic Ruin

Dec '21

Winter is knocking on our door and the Tumulus vegetation is preparing to hibernate. This patch of nature is still holding its green for the most part but some plants have decayed to fall colours under autumn's harsh weather.

Since the last season the Tumulus hermitage has dropper its ceiling and collapsed into a mountain overtaken by the surrounding greenery. The heavy autumn rain has defeated the hut and it seems to be beyond saving, but Ruchama thinks that this quite fits a hermit hut. Even back in the 18th and 19th centuries, garden hermits were considered odd and whimsical. In the popularisation of hermits, they were seen as places to withdraw for meditation, relaxation and reflection.
