Meet-a-Maker is a 30-minute session to have a one-on-one talk with artists currently working at Mediamatic. We are lucky to be inspired by the many artists who work and stay with us for exhibitions, residencies and workshops. We welcome you to meet them and be inspired as well!

About the artist

Uno Fujisawa, born in Japan in 1982 and currently based in Amsterdam, is not only an artist but also a chef. Her artistic endeavours are rooted in a profound exploration of the seemingly simple act of eating, a ritual that is universally repeated every day.

Having honed her culinary skills as a self-taught chef for over 15 years, Fujisawa further deepens her understanding of agriculture and nature at 'Landje van De Boer' in 2020, and continues to do so. Her approach explores new possibilities for food, merging cooking and Japanese traditional culture, particularly Ikebana, into what she terms ‘Edible Ikebana’. Edible Ikebana is her daily practice and what she shares with people. Her simple practices try to touch profound qualities of life. They wish to reveal the meaning of 'the inner world of relationships' of nature and humans and the connections between them.

  • Exploring the connection between Ikebana and food through organic forms.
  • Food: A transforming form of energy. But what are we eating?
  • Why do I use vegetables and fruits instead of flowers in my Ikebana creations?
  • Themes and activities related to soil, agriculture, food production, the tools we use in our daily life, and consumption cycles.
  • Bringing nature, food, design and art into a whole, researching in what ways the ordinary can become extraordinary.
  • Reconnection, life’s natural cycle and the interconnectedness with our environment.

You can choose a 30-minute time slot between 16:30 and 17:45.
