Over the years I have contributed to several books, magazines and newspapers. I have participated in art shows and commercial events, given lectures, taught university classes, organized conferences and written reports.
I am the founder of The Public Matters, an office that carries out research on the role of new media in society. I also work as an assistant professor at the MA-program in Journalism at the University of Amsterdam.
I am a member of the board of the Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Fund. It is the aim of the fund to provide grants to encourage the development and production of cultural radio and television programmes as well as digital cultural products. I am also a member of the board of advisors at Virtueel Platform, the national Dutch sector-institute for e-culture.
In 2009 I was a visiting scholar at MIT's Center for Future Civic Media, a collaboration between the Medialab and Comparative Mediastudies. At the end of the previous century, I also lived in the USA where I studied as an exchange student (UC Berkeley) and worked as a free lance reporter in Silicon Valley during the dotcom boom days. I have also worked on several projects in China.
I am a co-founder of The Mobile City, a think tank on new media and urban design, and I also co-founded De Nieuwe Reporter, a Dutch blog on the future of journalism.
