Building With Mycelium

Verval wordt gezien als iets negatiefs. Dat is een vergissing. Het is niet onontkoombaar maar we kunnen ermee samen werken in plaats van tegen wanneer wij bouwen met levende materialen. Met verval in acht nemend gebruiken wij bij Mediamatic mycelium als levend bouwmateriaal om op ons terrein torens te bouwen, die duiven kunnen huisvesten. Duiven zijn niet alleen ongelooflijke navigators, fantastische opruimers van straatresten, krachtige culturele metaforen van hoop en vrede, en een fijne metgezel, ze produceren ook nog eens een van 's werelds beste meststoffen.

Tijdens deze workshop delen we wat we tot nu toe hebben geleerd tijdens het bouwen met levend materiaal, en bespreken we waarom de iconische levende structuren terug moeten komen in het stadsbeeld. Dit doen we vanuit de kennis die wij hebben vergaard tijdens het bouwen van onze duiventorens.

Dit doen we terwijl we actief leren over mycelium en samen aan de slag te gaan met het bouwen van een hokje.

Wat ga je doen?

In deze workshop leer je alles over hoe je een mycelium toren bouwt. Niet alleen leer je te werken met levend materiaal zoals mycelium, maar ook leer je hoe je ruimte kan maken voor 'de ander' in ons dagelijks leven: of dat nu duiven, schimmels, sporen, insecten, etc. zijn.

Dit is geen masterclass in de kunst van het begrijpen van duiven, maar een ruimte waar Arne je uitnodigt samen te werken met het mycelium, verval en elkaar.

Arne laat je kennismaken met de reeds gebouwde torens. Daarna leer je hoe je zelf een duiventoren bouwt door er zelf één samen te maken met Arne. Deze workshop is een ruimte voor samenwerking en verkenning rond alles wat te maken heeft met het bouwen met levende materialen en de onontkoombaarheid van verval.

Arne Hendriks

Arne Hendriks is kunstenaar en onderzoeker op het gebied van menselijke ecologie. Hij gelooft dat we genereuzer moeten zijn voor onszelf door radicaal nieuwe ideeën en praktijken toe te staan om onze relatie met de planeet te herdefiniëren. In zijn praktijk richt hij zich op het proces in plaats van op het resultaat. Door de bevindingen van zijn onderzoek geduldig zijn gids te laten zijn, staat hij zichzelf toe om voortdurend van visie en perspectief te veranderen en nieuwe realiteiten te ontdekken binnen zijn onderwerp.

Tenzij iedereen Nederlands spreekt, zal de workshop in het Engels gegeven worden.
