An expert panel will be present to tackle the issue of corruption, tax avoidance and investigative journalism from multiple perspectives. The panel will be followed with a 30-minute Q/A where the audience will have a change to interact with the speakers’ talking points, ask questions and give feedback!
Nils Köbis
Post-doctoral researcher on the social psychology of corruption at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and CREED. His talk will cover the meaning and social norms of corruption and how media reports on corruption can impact emotions and the people's willingness to oppose it.
Gijs Verbraak
Senior Policy Advisor at ActionAid Nederland and Tax Avoidance expert.
His talk will focus on how the Dutch government or tax havens are facilitating tax avoidance and will offer one or two cases.
Fritz Streiff
Lawyer and project and research officer at Transparency International Netherlands. He will share knowledge on the need for good journalists, the Panama Papers and its consequences in the Netherlands and beyond and the hidden world of corruption and its ultimate beneficial owners and financial flows.
Marcel Metze (to be confirmed)
Member of the International Committee of Investigative Journalism.
He wrote for a number of Dutch newspapers and magazines including NRC Handelsblad, De Volkskrant and Intermediair and covered, for example, connections between big business and governmental agencies.
