Macha Roesink studied history of art at the University of Utrecht and the VU University Amsterdam.
She worked as a curator for the Caldic-Collection (Rotterdam), coordinator at the Rietveld Academy (Amsterdam) and as an independent curator she initiated projects for De Appel, arts centre(Amsterdam) with artists like Steve McQueen, De Rijke/De Rooij and Tracey Emin. Roesink initiated CAN (Creative Africa Network) with support of PUMA Creative, a virtual platform connecting the creative world within and beyond the African continent, giving visibility to the talents working in contemporary art, film, architecture, design, and performing arts. The project was launched at the Joburg Art Fair (2009).
Since 2001, Roesink is the director of Museum De Paviljoens in new town Almere in the Netherlands. As a director she is responsible for mid career solo exhibitions of artists like Yael Davids, Job Koelewijn, Barbara Visser, Meschac Gaba and Germaine Kruip. She showed artists like Gabriel Lester, Sarah van Sonsbeeck, Chikako Watanabe, Shirana Sjahbazi, Samson Kambalu and Hala Elkoussy. A current researchproject for Museum De Paviljoens is De Nederlandse identiteit?/ The Dutch Identity? With this project Museum De Paviljoens aims to show parallel histories in Dutch art since 1960.
Every story about (art) history is a construction. Museum De Paviljoens exhibits a selection of artists and works of art embedded in networks and different story lines within recent art history. An integral part of this project is a mapping of exceptional and important artists, sources of inspiration, artwork, curators, exhibitions, publications, art collectors, events, institutions and cities. This mapping expands during several group exhibitions and is subject to continuous changes in perspective. The project The Dutch Identity? will be made manifest in a publication and education program in autumn 2012 in collaboration with several cultural partners.
