Description
Ballota nigra, or black horehound, is part of the labiatae family and is a perennial. It is found in waste lands, hedgerows and other shady woodland areas. Most plants grow to 90cm.
Despite its long history as a medicinal herb, black horehound has fallen out of favor due to its unpleasant flavor. However, it has historically been used to treat problems with the respiratory system, convulsions, low spirits and the menopause.
