Secretopia: Catching Pheromones

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, movie discussion

15 May 2017

The movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, directed by Tom Tywker (2006), is set in 18th Century France and tells the story of Jean-Baptise Grenouille, an olfactory genius, on his homicidal quest for the perfect scent. The story shows us how life could be if we were more aware of the smells around us, and more specifically, if we were more aware of the pheromones that people carry with them in their sweat.

The event is free of charge // Facebook event

How much power lies within pheromones? What if we could transfer body odor from one person to another? And how would that impact our identity? These questions and more will be discussed during the discussion part of the evening. The movie shows us quite the doom scenario for if we actually became more aware of our pheromones. Maybe we can come up with an alternative scenario!

Secretopia is Mediamatic's programme series that focusses on secretions, the stuff that comes out of your body.
