Pigeon Tower Dominik Einfalt, Arne Hendriks

I / O

Dec '20 – Pigeon Tower 07

I / O stands for Inside/Out and reverses the inside and outside of the tower. The walls of pigeon towers are smooth on the outside with a few holes so that the pigeons can enter. On the inside, recesses have been left in the masonry where the pigeons build their nest. These recesses are about 20x20x20cm in size.

By moving the inside to the outside, we can better imagine how we should design this space on the inside. For example, with this tower you can see that we have to create more height but that there is enough space in the width. We could not achieve that with this design. Certainly not after the tower, as they all eventually do, started to shrink and collapse.
