Over the past three years Pet van de Luijtgaarden has collected millions of objects. His collections have been exhibited in the Kunsthal (Rotterdam) and more recently in a massive exhibition, sized 13.000m2, in the Jaarbeurs with the help of the Centraal Museum (Utrecht).
Starting in December 2012, Pet slowly began exchanging his collections for food. First off, one hundred barbies and barbie accessories from all walks of life were traded for foods such as jam, bread, or soup. Anything fresh that's easy to freeze was welcome. Did you have a birthday coming up, know someone with a doll fetish, or do you simply wanted a new plastic toy - without creating new plastic? Join us. If this was too girly for you, on December 9 Pet traded his Playmobil and on December 16 he got rid of his LEGO.
The Barbie for food swap took place on December 2, from 14.00 to 17.00 at Mediamatic Fabriek. You could trade free entrance for a chore like an hour of barkeeping or half an hour of vacuum cleaning. If you wanted to pay with money it's €5,- for a membership including free entrance for a month. Kids half price.
This event was part of Ruilen, an exhibition and series of events from October 20 to January 6. Open Wednesday through Sunday, from 13.00 to 18.00.
