New Order

Series of exhibitions and events

24 Feb 2012
1 Jul 2012

New Order is a series of exhibitions and events in Mediamatic FABRIEK, that explores a world in which energy has become a fundamental principle of our society. Five solo shows feature new works by Dutch and international artists, designers and architects, each responding to various elements of society - such as politics, economy, health, food and experience - which together combine to outline a complete future world.

New Order

We've commissioned artists, architects and designers to make works and working prototypes for a new social order. At the exhibition, you can visit the Radiant Beach by Martti Kalliala, a heated concrete beach inspired by the afterglow of nuclear waste. Just a few steps from the beach you’re standing face to face with a giant electroluminescent blue whale, the largest animal ever lived. Mediamatic Fabriek is lit by the impressive installation Meet Your Energy Avatar by Rory Hyde and Katja Novitskova. Furthermore, you can launch your body into space with the installation Camera Futura by Sascha Pohflepp. The giant life sized, real-time board game Energy Battlefield by Femke Herregraven and Chris Lee is still on view as well as Liam Youngs Singing Sentinels, which explores a future scenario where birds monitor the air for us. In the second hall are two redundant hot air balloons transformed into a giant igloo-like space, gently breathing like a habitable lung: the Mind Igloo by DUS architects.
