20-02-2020 Meta_Bolus - At the Opening of Meta_Bolus - We present the installation ‘Meta_bolus’ by Saša Spačal and Mirjan Švagelj.  Meta_bolus embodies the planetary metabolic process as a fragile dynamic of substances in a continuous balancing flow. 21-11-2019 Visitors receiving a facial treatment in our Death Beauty Salon - During Museumnacht we looked at death. All our rooms were dedicated to death. With a soundscape sounding through every room, guests could have a 15 minute one-on-one with artist Irina Birger, take a selfie in a coffin or design a death shroud. Guests could also win a relaxing facial treatment with a death mask as the result.

13-05-2019 Beauty Kit - In this  Focus Group,  the artist presents the beauty bio-products that she conceptualised, invented and manufactured using the sexual juices harvested from her farms in Portugal and Amsterdam. Combining medical and ancestral perspectives, she exposes how the nutritious properties in these fluids can replace components of beauty products that we find in the market today and points out the empty gaps that science currently has regarding the female body’s full agency.  Tia Török

09-07-2019 'The Children of O' were blessed with precious water from the cloud catcher - The Children of O organised a dinner to find playful solutions  and spread awareness for water shortage due to climate change.  The Children of O grow their crops in sea water, use the braque water of the Oosterdok for food production and source their water from clouds. 17-01-2019 A visitor listening to one of the podcasts - The Invisible Collection holds the most beautiful compilation of auditory artwork. Art connoisseurs described the experience of a piece of their own choosing. People like   Dirk van Weelden ,   Valentijn Byvanck ,   Wim Pijbes  and   Charles Esche   are among the narrators. 08-11-2019 Asparagus and some optional blood - Course 6 - During the The Eating of Humans, guests could experience how tasty humans can be. Chef Bryce Steba created a dinner experience where guests were invited to add their own blood to their meal. With this dinner we asked ourselves, why is it ok to massively slaughter animals but we can't fathom the idea of eating a little bit of human?

25-08-2018 Gotta Catch 'em All - Haeckel Biology game for Oosterdok In the spring of 2018 we start marking the area around Oosterdok with Ernst Haeckel's oevre. This 19th century explorer, scientist, artist and educator has been a hero of Mediamatic's for a while. From now on, Expedition Oosterdok embraces him as a neighborhood icon, and his work as exemplary of the area's shared values. In fact, the cabbage harvest turned out so good, there was more cabbage than farmer Krispijn van den Dries can process for a fair price. What to do with a food-surplus of 60,000 kilos of cabbage? Mediamatic takes them on to survive the winter on cabbage and to question the value of our food. 11-10-2017 Tears Donation - During this free crying session Mediamatic provided guest with the space to shed some tears in whatever way you feel comfortable. The donated tears where then crystalised by photographer  Maurice Mikkers . Maurice  has  crystalised the tears   to then photograph them using a microscope. He visualizes the stories of individual tears through photography. 08-09-2017 wASH bottles - Designer  Caroline Jacob   tackles common preconceptions of food, waste and hygiene in her latest work wASH. 01-04-2017 The Aroma lab - Science of distillation of aroma - The newest addition to Mediamatic's Biotoop: The Aroma Lab. This is a working space for scent distillation. The DIY olfactory lab was initiated by Klara Ravat and Mediamatic, when Ravat was an artist in residence at the Biotoop. Separated from our Clean lab, where sometimes stinky bacterial processes lead the way, this space is only meant to support nice scents. 27-10-2016 The Art of Deception - Isaac Monte - photograper Hanneke Wetzer By decellularizing the hearts and re-populating them with various techniques they aesthetically improved the hearts for humans. This procedure marks a new era of synthetic biology - where organs are stripped of their cellular contents, leaving behind a sterile scaffold that can be repopulated with stemcells. While the medical utilisation of this resource is being realised, the artistic and creative value of these ghost organs represents unexplored territory.

01-12-2016 Al-Rihla - Bahia Shehab (LB/EG) - Mediamatic and Framer Framed invited Lebanese—Egyptian street artist Bahia Shehab to create a brand new calligraphic graffiti wall at Mediamatic Biotoop. Bahia Shehab became a political activist during the Arabic Spring when she decided to transform her earlier research and exhibited art project about Arabic calligraphy into graffiti in the streets of Cairo. ‘Al—Rihla’ means ‘The Journey’, and depicts a poem by Mahmoud Darwish Bahia Shehab, Anisa Xhomaqi

19-03-2016 Melksalon - Sietske Klooster and her farmers - Local farmers of Amsterdam. During 'de Melksalon' an event presented Sietske Klooster, guest could taste the raw unprocessed milk. It was a monthly serie where Sietske presents Amsterdam's dairy culture. The project was made by working together with farmers, dairy-experts, restaurateurs, artists and synestheet. 11-09-2015 Rederij Lampedusa - arriving at Mediamatic - In the harbour next to the terrace of Mediamatic ETEN, the two ships from Shipping Company Lampedusa are docked. The respective boats are former refugees ships used by people to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Although the Municipality of Amsterdam allows no more than fifteen people on the largest ship according to its safely regulations, 282 refugees fled on it from North Africa to Lampedusa. 30-11-2015 Kunstformen der Natur in Radboud UMC Hospital - More than a century ago, biologist Ernst Haeckel scored a hit with his amazing illustrations of unseen organisms. We collected all original lithographs and blew them up to 5 times life size for our exhibition. Mediamatic's Kunstformen der Natur exhibition about the pop-science illustrations of Ernst Haeckel and Adolf Glitch was installed in Nijmegen. We try to use as little animal products as possible and bake our vegan pizza's in the homebuilt Wood-Fired Clay Oven. The herbs come from our own Aquaponics System (a durable food production system) and off course you will find a lot of fermented products on the menu. Including our own homebrewed myco beer. 18-09-2015 Hard Water by Zeger Reyers - In an ultimate combination of man and nature (or perhaps man versus nature), Zeger Reyers has created an enormous living art installation that climbs down from the exterior second floor level of the Mediamatic Biotoop building in Dijkspark into the Mediamatic Restaurant. Hard Water was constructed using over 1000 ceramic plates, soil and different species of grass, including Gaura and Crocosmia. 05-08-2015 Twijfel Zaaien - seedmap - Raising Doubts   asks thirty questions during a walking tour through Dijkspark. Large flower pots have been set up in a grid and show the questions on their sides. As a visitor, you are supplied a punch card containing flower seeds. 18-06-2015 Pure Gold - Kamiel Rongen - Five urinals and five video screens are placed against the façade of the Mediamatic Biotoop. The screens display audio-visual artworks created by Kamiel Rongen and with the urinals, we collect the urine kindly donated by visitors. Whilst the films may appear digitally created, they are entirely natural and made with a most natural ingredient; the artists' own urine! - In September 2013 Mediamatic will open its doors for people who want to support the Gezi protesters in Turkey. Weekly meetings will result in a public park in the Mediamatic exhibition space. A sanctuary for gathering and freedom of speech; a mirror in front of the Gezi Park. Park is therefore not a normal exhibition, but a bottom-up gathering place of people and ideas. 01-06-2013 Pretty Nice Stuff explaining there project - Freezing Favela - Freezing Favela is a temporary city in the Mediamatic Factory. Designers, cooks, and other makers have taken up a part of this space. In the Favela you can make sandwiches from scratch, make furniture out of cardboard, make artworks out of garbage and cook with ingredients from the aquaponics farm. The citizens of Freezing Favela give workshops and organize events and meals. A living art project including grain field, three cows and two pigs. For 7 months the cows and pigs were fed, milked, harvested and finally slaughtered. They included information such as their name, and the location they visited before coming to Mediamatic. Release date 22 April 2011. In the appendix, residents of Amsterdam could visit a list of houses from which Jewish families were deported during the Second World War. If the house was found, the current residents could take a picture of the house, upload it on the website of the Jewish Monument and hang it at Mediamatic.

After a week the plastic covering is removed, revealing the natural molding processes that the tomato paste has taken. 18-03-2006 No title, HENK BOVERHOFF - Le Mepris - Le Mépris (or) Contempt. In Le Mépris Voulon wanted to show 'the construction of fear' and the conscious creation of a sense of 'loss of identity'. The 'postmodern' merging and intertwining of fiction & reality - characteristic of both contemporary art and the real world - has created an ambiguous atmosphere. While Godard preluded this ambiguity in the film, it already seemed to be the time for further analysis. Le Mépris evokes the anonymous atmosphere typical of a border crossing in general. Food Facility was a prototype restaurant of Marti Guixé. Instead of a central kitchen, the restaurant was connected to existing take-out restaurants in the area. 05-05-2004 Digitaal Joods Monument -   In 2004 Mediamatic Lab developed the Jewish Monument, an online community that keeps alive the memory of the Jewish victims of WWII. It is the interactive website of the Digital Monument. Digital Monument to the Jewish Community is a memorial to some 105,000 Jewish Dutch citizens who died. The memory is kept alive on the community website, through the active participation of next of kin. By adding information such as family relationships, photos or a biography, a living community is created.

With Mediamatic Off-line Mediamatic continued to irregularly publish CD-ROM collections and DVD projects after the last paper magazine. After 9 volumes of each (about) 4 issues it ended to make a restart as Mediamatic Off-Line in the 21st century. All issues can be found here.
